Sacramento County District Attorney's Office

I began my legal career as a deputy district attorney in this office in 1979. Before being elected district attorney in 1994, I worked my way up through the ranks and was proud to supervise teams in our Felony and Sexual Assaults and Child Abuse bureaus.

Throughout the years, I have been very proud of the hard work, integrity, and dedication to public service that have characterized my colleagues. As district attorney, I appreciate their long hours, their energy and ingenuity, and their unfailing good humor.

We are committed to providing the highest level of public protection in Sacramento County, both in the courtroom and in our community. This office prosecutes cases brought to us by almost 40 state federal and local agencies, with the Sacramento Sheriff's Department and Sacramento Police Department accounting for the great majority of these cases. I am proud of the strong, positive, working relationships we have with all these agencies and their leaders.

We have designed this website in an effort to better inform the public we serve. I hope it will help you to learn about the work performed at this office, as well as enable you to have your individual questions and concerns addressed.

In these times of shrinking financial resources, we have endeavored to form a partnership with communities, businesses, and other agencies in order to make Sacramento a safer place in which to live, work and raise our children. Ingenuity, integrity and hard work by this office have paid, and will continue to pay, dividends in public safety.
