In 2008, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office welcomed Reggie to its Victim Witness Unit. St. Francis Pet Education and Training Center donated Reggie – a pure bred standard poodle – to serve as a comfort dog in a new and innovative service. Reggie provides a unique kind of support, peace and security to people who are in some way involved in the criminal justice system. His presence benefits victims, witnesses, lawyers, judges, law enforcement officers, court personnel and anyone who is in need of his calming influence.
Reggie retired in 2016 with his handler.
We are currently working with Canine Companions, an organization dedicated to providing extensive training to service dogs, to receive a fully trained comfort dog who will accompany witnesses and victims to court. The comfort dog eases stress and anxiety for many people at the courthouse.
