Luther Burbank Youth Academy

Derived from the Citizens Academy, the Youth Academy increases understanding and improves relations between youth and members of the criminal justice system.  The program works to deter criminal activity among at-risk students; provides an overview of the criminal justice system including the roles and challenges of law enforcement, attorneys, and the courts; and inspires students to choose a career in the criminal justice system.  The District Attorney’s Office partnered with the County of Sacramento Office of Education and the Sacramento City Unified School District to launch a pilot course at McClatchy High School in 2008.  The academy is now firmly established at Luther Burbank High School.
