CONVICTION: Attempted Murder, 9 Counts Acting in Concert, 3 Counts Oral Copulation by Acting in Concert with Force, Assault with Intent to Commit Rape/Sodomy/Oral Copulation, 2 Counts Forcible Rape, 2 Counts Sodomy by Force and Lewd Act on Dependent Adult.
SENTENCE: 137 years, 8 months to LIFE

PAROLE HEARING DATE: January 17, 2026 – GRANTED
CASE SUMMARY: In April 2001, the victim was walking on Stockton Boulevard when Eghtesadi and his female co-defendant stopped and asked her for directions. The victim then asked Eghtesadi for a ride home, but he drove her to his apartment instead. Once inside, Eghtesadi and the co-defendant committed numerous and unimaginable sexually sadistic violent assaults on the victim. The victim was eventually allowed to leave and noticed money and pictures missing from her purse. When she confronted Eghtesadi about her belongings, Eghtesadi took a knife and held it up in a stabbing motion. The victim left and contacted police. The victim stated she wanted Eghtesadi to receive the maximum sentence allowed.
PRIOR HISTORY: Eghtesadi had an active warrant on the Attempted Murder, Forcible Rape, Lewd Act on a Dependent Adult and Forcible Sodomy charge for stabbing a woman twice after scaring her into performing oral sex and having sexual intercourse with him in 1998. In February 2001, he forced another woman to perform oral sex and sodomized her while pressing a knife against her ribs. He then forced her to have sexual intercourse.
RISK ASSESSMENT: In a 2022 Risk Assessment, Eghtesadi was found to be Higher Moderate Risk for violence with a 5-year denial, yet he was advanced. His 2025 Risk Assessment states Eghtesadi was found to still be a Moderate risk for violence. It further states that he meets the paraphilic disorder of sexual sadism. He admitted engaging in recurrent acts of forced sexual activity, and being sexually aroused when someone says, "no and resists." He stated, "Rejection is one of my triggers, I felt disrespected, took knife from kitchen and told her I would cut her face, or she had to do what I asked, I saw fear in her face, I got aroused, excited…I took the knife and stabbed her to show her I cannot tolerate any rejection." Eghtesadi admitted to having fantasies about inflicting pain on someone and being aroused by seeing a prostitute on the show Law & Order just a few years ago.

CASE SUMMARY: Funston’s victims included a 5-year-old girl he lured into his car with candy and drove away to a secluded area. He forcibly and violently sexually assaulted the girl. He also choked her when she initially refused, shoved her underwear into her mouth when she screamed, and punched her. Funston took a 4-year-old boy into some bushes and sexually assaulted him. Funston then lured a 4-year-old girl into his car with jewelry and toys and took her to a house. He molested the victim and while holding a knife to her throat and threatening to kill her and her family if she told anybody.
PRIOR HISTORY: At age 15, Funston molested a 6-year-old girl. At age 22, he fondled a highly intoxicated female co-worker. At age 23, he punched a woman in the face, breaking her nose. At age 24, he dragged an intoxicated woman behind a building and chocked her, threatened to kill her and sexually assaulting her.
RISK ASSESSMENT: The Risk Assessment states Funston is Moderate (Higher Moderate) risk for violence. Moderate-risk examinees are expected to commit violence more frequently than Low-risk long-term parolees but less frequently than other parolees.
Funston was shown to meet the criteria for Pedophilic Disorder, sexually attracted to both and other personality disorders.
