Toxicology

The toxicology section of the laboratory analyzes biological samples including blood, urine, and tissues for the presence of drugs.  The Sacramento County District Attorney Crime Lab tests for the main classes of drugs that are known to cause mental and physical impairment.  These may be illicit drugs, prescription drugs, and over the counter medications.  Occasionally we may receive requests to analyze food and beverage items which may have been spiked or dosed with drugs, or even other materials (bedding, carpet, and clothing upon which a drug laced beverage was spilled) that may provide investigative information.
