Principal Criminal Attorney
Under general supervision, plans, directs, and/or supervises the activities and personnel of an organizational unit; or, personally provides legal representation for the most complex and sensitive cases requiring the highest level of expertise, up to and including trial. Incumbents also perform legal duties as assigned.
Principal Criminal Attorney is either a supervisory or high-level expert/specialist class. Incumbents supervise an organizational unit and/or perform special assignments, which involve sensitive or highly publicized cases and require the highest level of expertise. Some positions may be assigned to functions such as overseeing, leading, or managing special projects.
This class is distinguished from Attorney-Criminal (Level V) by its supervisory responsibility and/or performance of duties that require the highest level of legal expertise.

Attorney I-V
Under direction, performs professional legal work in the District Attorney’s Offices involving the prosecution of criminal cases.
The duties of an Attorney – Criminal range from the least difficult assignments requiring only a minimal level of expertise and little or no experience, to the prosecution of the most difficult, complex and sensitive criminal trial cases requiring highly advanced degrees of legal knowledge, skill and experience.
Under direction, performs professional legal work in the District Attorney’s Offices involving the prosecution of criminal cases.

Government Forgiveness
Over the past two years, Congress has enacted the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and the College Cost Reduction and Access Act both offering loan forgiveness to those entering and maintaining careers in public interest fields. Federal Perkins Loan Cancellation
The Perkins loan is a low-interest loan awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. The Perkins loan program is campus-based, with your school acting as the lender using a limited pool of funds provided by the federal government. For certain students who work in the fields of law enforcement, medicine or education after graduation, provisions exist for cancellation or forgiveness of all or a portion of a Federal Perkins Loan.
