Post-Bar Clerk (Post-Bar Legal Research Assistant)

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for post-bar Legal Research Assistants to begin work in August 2027, after taking the February or July 2027 California Bar Exam.

Legal Research Assistants will begin a term of employment starting in August 2027. Upon admission to the Bar (usually at the beginning of December), Legal Research Assistants will begin conducting misdemeanor jury trials. Depending upon the needs of the office, this position can transition to a permanent position as a deputy district attorney.

Post-bar legal research assistant compensation will be at a rate of $34.28/hour.

The Justice Academy is a three day, intensive training program for all first and second year law students aspiring to become prosecutors, offering hands-on trial advocacy experience, direct mentorship from seasoned prosecutors, and real-world courtroom exposure.

2027 Summer Paid Intern Program (2L Summer Position)

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for its paid summer intern program for 2027. Interns will work with deputy district attorneys on legal research, court assistance, and misdemeanor arraignment tasks. They will prepare misdemeanor cases, negotiate plea deals, record pleas, and oversee sentencing. Interns may also present evidence in court during preliminary hearings, motions to suppress, discovery motions, and probation violation hearings.

Additionally, we are seeking interns for the Justice, Training & Integrity (JTI) Unit. The JTI Intern will research complex legal issues, draft trial and appellate briefs, and respond to petitions for writ of habeas corpus. The JTI Intern applicant should possess strong legal research and writing skills, along with Moot Court and/or law journal experience.  Please specifically request to be considered for this position.

This is a 10 week program beginning in late May 2027. Compensation will be at a rate of $31.10/hour.

Loan Repayment Assistant Programs (LRAP)

Many Schools offer Loan Repayment Assistance Programs (LRAP) to graduates who pursue employment in public interest fields or government agencies. Please check with your school’s financial aid office for details.

Government Forgiveness

Over the past two years, Congress has enacted the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and the College Cost Reduction and Access Act both offering loan forgiveness to those entering and maintaining careers in public interest fields. More information may be found at U. S. Department of Education website, www.ed.gov.

Federal Perkins Loan Cancellation

The Perkins loan is a low-interest loan awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. The Perkins loan program is campus-based, with your school acting as the lender using a limited pool of funds provided by the federal government. For certain students who work in the fields of law enforcement, medicine or education after graduation, provisions exist for cancellation or forgiveness of all or a portion of a Federal Perkins Loan.
