Defendants Convicted of Robbery, Attempted Robbery at Illegal Gambling House

On November 21, 2025, John Edward Blount and Eddie Lee White were convicted by a jury of six counts of robbery and three counts of attempted robbery. Blount was also convicted of felon in possession of a firearm.
On January 22, 2018, the defendants entered the garage of a south Sacramento residence that was being used as an illegal gambling house. The defendants were armed with firearms and held all occupants at gunpoint as they robbed them of their money and personal items. Many of the victims were thrown to the ground, had furniture thrown at them and were physically assaulted during the robbery. When deputies arrived on scene, the defendants fled into the neighborhood. They were later apprehended with many of the victims’ items in their pockets.
Allegations that Blount has prior strike convictions for assault with a firearm and robbery will be determined at the sentencing hearing.
Blount faces a maximum sentence of 259 years and 8 months to life in prison. White faces a maximum sentence of 40 years and 8 months in prison. Sentencing is set for January 16, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 20 before the Honorable Michael Sweet.
