Defendant Convicted of Stabbing Death at South Natomas Hotel Parking Lot

On August 13, 2025, Gino Espinosa was convicted by a jury of the first-degree murder of Antonio Young.
On November 10, 2024, Gino Espinosa tried to get a key for a room that was not registered in his name at the Extended Stay America in south Natomas. When staff refused to give him a key, Espinosa became irate and tried to forcibly enter the room. After failed attempts by staff to get Espinosa to calm down and leave, the victim attempted to get Espinosa to calm down and leave. Both men went out into the parking lot, where Espinosa pulled out a knife and stabbed the unarmed victim 15 times, fatally wounding him.
Espinosa faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for September 19, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 40 before Judge Steve White.
