On July 25, 2025, the Honorable Donald Currier sentenced Tashiri Abdur-Raheem to 53 years and 8 months to life in prison. On May 1, 2025, a jury convicted Abdur-Raheem of first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. The jury also found true a personal discharge of a firearm allegation and the Court found true aggravating factors.
On January 31, 2022, Tashiri Abdur-Raheem was masked when he killed the victim, Daniel Cunningham, in a parking lot on El Camino Avenue. Sacramento police detectives identified Abdur-Raheem by retracing his steps through surveillance from multiple locations. On February 9, 2022, Abdur-Raheem was apprehended by officers from the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol after he attempted to flee a residence in south Sacramento. A STAR helicopter captured Abdur-Raheem trying to discard the murder weapon as he fled.
