PROSECUTOR: Principal Criminal Attorney Paris Coleman, Domestic Violence Unit
Alexander Echeverria was convicted by a jury of the second-degree murder of his daughter, 8-month-old Alexia Echeverria. The jury also found Echeverria guilty of assault on a child resulting in death.
On May 26, 2019, Alexander Echeverria was caring for Alexia when he took her to southern California. Despite repeated demands for him to return the child, Echeverria refused. On May 27, 2019, Alexia’s body was discovered abandoned in southern California. Echeverria then fled to Mexico. Soon after, he was taken into US custody and extradited back to Sacramento County to face charges. An autopsy on Alexia determined she had suffered significant blunt force trauma to her head, causing her death.
Echeverria faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Sentencing has been set for May 30, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Dept. 10 before the Honorable Ernest Sawtelle.
