On February 6, 2025, David Perry was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder. The special circumstance that the murder was committed by firing from a motor vehicle and the allegation he personally discharged a firearm causing death were also found true. He was also convicted of attempted murder with the allegation he personally discharged a firearm causing great bodily injury found true.

On October 26, 2021, Perry was driving when he hit the victim’s vehicle. Perry quickly drove away and the victim followed him while calling 911 to report the license plate number. Perry made a U turn aligning his car with the victim and shot six rounds at him, striking him in the face and arm before fleeing. That victim survived his injuries.

On December 6, 2021, Perry and the second victim had an interaction in their vehicles on Watt Ave. near I-80. Perry began to pursue the victim, who attempted to flee on I-80 then I-5 while calling 911 for help. Perry pulled alongside the victim and fired several shots into his truck, hitting him in the arm and waist. The victim stayed on the phone with 911 for five minutes during which time Perry circled back to the victim on I-5 and shot him one more time in the head, killing him. Perry was observed getting out of his vehicle on the West Sacramento overpass where he discarded the firearm.

Perry faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sentencing is set on April 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Honorable Michael Bowman.
