Investigative Interns
Through a mutual agreement with CSU-Sacramento, currently enrolled full-time students majoring in Criminal Justice may be considered for Investigative Internships. Investigative Interns assist investigative staff and Deputy District Attorneys during ongoing criminal prosecutions.
This is a paid position, and we have limited positions available. Internships are filled on a rolling basis. We cannot guarantee that internships will be available at the start of every semester or in time to complete requirements for CRJ195.
This is a rare opportunity for college students to gain experience and exposure to the daily operations of the District Attorney’s Office.
The internship is not available to non-college students.
Successful applicants must:
- Be full-time Sacramento State University college students pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice.
- Commit to the internship with between 12-20 hours per week during the school term, and 12- 40 hours per week during holiday breaks and summer.
- Be available to work a flexible shift (specific hours TBD) between the hours of 0700-1700.
- Be comfortable interacting with the public both in person and via phone.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance for public interaction.
- Have strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, professional conduct, and sound judgment.
- Follow all County policies and procedures.
- Keep information private and confidential.
- Pass a background check.
Successful applicants also must be willing to participate in all aspects and duties of the District Attorney’s office including, but not limited to:
- General office duties (answering phones, logging information, data entry, pulling case files, and filing).
- Assisting/shadowing Criminal Investigators and Investigative Assistants with more complex assignments
- Trial court observation and assistance.
- Handling evidence.
- Reviewing new and old case files.
- Other duties as assigned.
