District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announces the launch of a monthly podcast – called “Justice Journal.” Listeners will learn about important public safety issues, interesting and notable cases as well as how the office is working both in the courtroom and in the community to provide the highest level of public safety through prosecution, prevention and innovation.
For the first episode, DA Schubert will talk about her passion for pursuing justice through DNA evidence and cold case prosecutions. Schubert will highlight some notable cold cases from the 70s and 80s, including the 1977 murder of 15-year-old Penny Parker, the 1980 murders of UC Davis students John Riggins and Sabrina Gonsalves and the arrest of Joseph DeAngelo for what has been coined the East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer case. Schubert also presents other positive developments that came out of pursuing these cold cases, and her thoughts on the new innovative ways DNA forensics and technology are helping to solve cold cases.
Future episodes include a four-part series focusing on the cold case prosecution of Richard Hirschfield for the murders of John Riggins and Sabrina Gonsalves - often called the UC Davis Sweetheart Murders, and a two-part series on the District Attorney’s Crime Lab.
DA Schubert states, “In addition to our many community programs, our Speakers Bureau, newsletter and social media outreach, the office podcast is another way we are increasing communication and engagement with the community. I hope listeners find the podcast interesting, informative and educational as we cover a wide range of topics with different guest speakers.”
Justice Journal podcasts will be published every second Wednesday of the month, with some exceptions. To be alerted of new episodes, subscribe or follow us on social media @SacCountyDA.
