CASE: Erick Nevarez (Case #19FE020709)

Erick Nevarez was convicted by a jury of attempted murder. The jury also found true great bodily injury, use of a knife, premeditation and gang allegations.

The victim was pumping gas when Erick Nevarez drove into the gas station and asked him if he was a gang member because of what he was wearing. Nevarez then pulled his vehicle in front of the victim to trap him, got out of his car and stabbed the victim multiple times.  The victim was able to take control of the knife and stabbed Nevarez. Nevarez fled the scene and sought medical care for his stab wound. The victim underwent surgery for a perforated diaphragm and puncture wounds. Nevarez is a validated gang member.

Nevarez faces a maximum sentence of 21 years to life in prison.  Sentencing is set for October 20, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 32 before the Honorable James Arguelles.
