Caregiver Pleads to Abusing Child w/Cerebral Palsy

Edgar Burgion pled no contest to two counts of felony child abuse.
Burgion was a licensed vocational nurse and caregiver to the 13-year-old victim, who had cerebral palsy. The victim required 24-hour care and was highly reliant on the care of others, including Burgion. In November 2021, home surveillance captured Burgion abusing the victim. The abuse included punching and violently lifting and throwing the victim in his bed, resulting in the victim suffering multiple injuries.
Burgion faces a sentence of 3 years and 4 months in prison. Sentencing is set for October 14, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. in Department 62 of the Sacramento Superior Court.
