CASE: Catina Maxwell (Case #14F03292)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Quirina Orozco, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

The Honorable Michael Savage sentenced Catina Maxwell to 28 years in prison.  On July 15, 2021, Maxwell pled to three counts of lewd acts with a minor under the age of 14 and one count of felony child abuse.

On May 22, 2014, an officer responded to the UC Davis Medical Center in regard to a sexual assault report involving a seven-year-old girl. Maxwell knew her co-defendant, Mikel Bhatti, was sexually assaulting the victim. From May 1, 2012 through September 30, 2012, Maxwell enabled the sexual abuse of the young girl by Bhatti. On December 2, 2016, Bhatti was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading to four counts of lewd acts with a minor. On May 27, 2014, Maxwell was interviewed by law enforcement regarding a child abuse allegation.  Further investigation revealed Maxwell put insulin in a six-year-old boy’s soup. Maxwell stated she disliked the victim and gave him insulin to calm him down. The victim did not suffer harm despite Maxwell’s acts.
