The Honorable Tami Bogert sentenced Leon Tucker, Jr. to 40 years to life in prison. On May 27, 2021, a jury convicted Tucker of the second-degree murder of Steven Matthews. The jury also found true that Tucker personally used a firearm causing death.
On December 3, 2017, Tucker shot the victim in the head. The victim, who was homeless, had assaulted Tucker the day before the murder. The gun Tucker used was never recovered.
