Defendant Sentenced for 24 Counts of Child Sexual Assault, Multiple Victims

DATE: June 3, 2021

CASE: Paul Burraston (Case #19FE004065)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Catrina Ranum, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

On April 30, 2021, the Honorable Sharon Lueras sentenced Paul Burraston to 345 years to life in prison.  On March 23, 2021, a jury convicted Burraston of six counts of rape, five counts of committing lewd acts on a child under the age of 14, one count of aggravated sexual assault on a child under the age of 14, and 12 counts of committing lewd acts on a child under the age of 14 by force, duress, menace, or fear.  The jury also found true a multiple victim enhancement.

Burraston knew the victim when she was 11 to 18 years old.  When the victim was 11 years old, Burraston introduced her to methamphetamine. Soon after, Burraston began sexually abusing the victim until she was 18 years old.  In 2019, when the victim was approximately 21 years old, she reported the sexual abuse to law enforcement.  At that time, law enforcement discovered that Burraston was the suspect in a 2005 rape of a child.  In 2018, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office was able to revive the 2005 sexual assault case and see that justice was served for both victims.
