Kyle Sroka was convicted by a jury of attempted murder with premeditation and assault with a semi-automatic firearm. The jury also found true allegations that Sroka personally used a firearm causing great bodily injury on both counts.
On March 21, 2017, Sroka was at his home with the victim when a vacuum salesman came to the door. The salesman was invited into the home to hang out with Sroka and his group. When the salesman continued to pressure Sroka to buy a vacuum, Sroka swore at the salesman and told him to get out of his house. The victim didn’t like how Sroka spoke to the salesman and an argument started. Sroka then threatened to get his gun and shoot the victim. The victim punched Sroka in the face 10 times to keep him from getting his gun. The victim then vandalized Sroka’s house before going out into the backyard. Sroka retrieved his Glock 19 handgun, went to the backyard and fired 10 rounds at the victim. The victim was hit between five to nine times. He was taken to the hospital and underwent immediate surgery. Sroka was arrested at the scene.
Sroka faces a maximum sentence of 34 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for September 13, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in Department 10 before the Honorable Eugene Balonon.
