Dwayne Sullivan was convicted by a jury of the first-degree murder of Terryon Bean and personally using a firearm in the course of that murder. Sullivan was also convicted of being a felon in possession of firearm and the jury found that Sullivan had been previously convicted of negligently discharging a firearm, which is a strike under California law.
On January 13, 2018, the victim went to the Upgrades Cuts & Styles barbershop for his weekly haircut. Dwayne Sullivan entered the barbershop, walked directly toward the victim and shot the victim multiple times at point blank range before fleeing. The victim was transported to the hospital and died 18 days later. Detectives reviewed video from a neighboring business and observed Sullivan walking toward the barbershop. About 10-15 seconds later, Sullivan ran from the barbershop, jumped into the passenger side of a car and fled. Detectives sent out an Information Bulletin with still shots captured on the neighboring business’s surveillance system. Sullivan’s probation officer recognized him and notified detectives.
Sullivan faces a maximum sentence of 80 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for May 31, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 29 before the Honorable Geoffrey Goodman.
