Human Trafficking Awareness Month & Day Local Activities

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert and Sacramento’s Human Trafficking Task Force, Sacramento Together, recognize January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month and January 11th as Human Trafficking Awareness Day.

Sacramento Together is a coalition of more than 30 law enforcement, state and local public agencies, and community-based organizations working together to combat human trafficking and exploitation in the Sacramento region.

To raise awareness and educate our community about human trafficking issues, DA Anne Marie Schubert encourages all members of the public to attend a showing of the documentary entitled, “California’s Forgotten Children.” Two showings will occur in Sacramento:

  • January 31, 2019, doors open at 6:00 p.m. at McGeorge School of Law – This screening is proudly hosted by CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Children of Sacramento County and McGeorge School of Law. There will be a Q&A session after the film. See flyer for more information.

In addition, My Sister’s House is sponsoring a local human trafficking conference at Sacramento State University’s Grand Ballroom.  This all-day conference will be held on January 15, 2019.  For more information on how to sign up for the conference, visit: http://www.my-sisters-house.org/events/human-trafficking-and-the-drug-connection-conference/

DA Schubert states, “I am proud of the work Sacramento Together is doing to protect, prevent and raise awareness about victims of human trafficking, and I remain committed to prosecuting those who force victims into the commercial sex and labor trade.  It’s my hope this documentary and conference will provide the public an opportunity to learn more about this issue and how they can help to end human trafficking in our community.”
