DA Anne Marie Schubert Announces Final Disbursement of the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office Public Safety & Community Improvement Fund

On December 1, 2015, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Sacramento City Attorney’s Office and the City of Rancho Cordova entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Motel 6 Operating L.P. to improve the conditions of their properties in Sacramento County and to contribute to the safety of our community through a financial investment.  [See Initial Announcement]

In 2016 and 2017, Motel 6 deposited a total of $540,000 into the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office Public Safety and Community Improvement Fund.  Those funds were distributed to 27 local nonprofit organizations that focus on youth intervention, preventing human trafficking and serving domestic violence victims.  In addition, four Sacramento Sheriff Deputy Danny Oliver Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Grant High School seniors interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or the public sector.  A portion of the funds have also been distributed to the Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center.

In 2018, a final $210,000 was deposited by Motel 6 into the trust fund for a total of $750,000 in community investments.

Today, District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert recognized 16 community organizations selected to receive funds this year at the Board of Supervisors’ meeting. [See 2018 Recipients]

“The final disbursement of community improvement funds and Motel 6’s enhanced operational practices successfully completes this MOU,” states DA Schubert.  “This unique agreement is another example of how we are working both in the courtroom and the community to reduce crime as well as assist our youth and victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. I am proud of the positive change that has resulted by working with a regional corporate partner.”
