CASE: Cansio Santiago Ramirez (Case #17FE015184)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Caroline Park, Homicide Unit

The Honorable Kevin Culhane sentenced Cansio Santiago Ramirez to 50 years to life in prison.  On August 30, 2018, a jury convicted Ramirez of the first-degree murder of Arturo Soto.  The jury also found true a firearm allegation.

On August 15, 2017, Arturo Soto was in a dispute with a friend over a truck sale.  Soto met the friend at the friend’s auto body shop.  When the argument escalated, Soto grabbed a gun, loaded it with a magazine, pointed it at the friend’s head and threatened to shoot him.  The friend convinced Soto to put the gun down and they got into a physical fight.  At that point, Ramirez returned to the shop. During the fight, the friend yelled to Ramirez to grab the gun. Ramirez then approached Soto from behind and shot him in the back, killing him.
