CASE: Ricky Allen Freeny (Case #15F03530)

PROSECUTOR: Supervising Deputy District Attorney Molly Steber

The Honorable Russell Hom sentenced Ricky Allen Freeny to 82 years to life in prison.  On February 9, 2018, a jury convicted Freeny for the first-degree murder of Gregory Denzel King and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.  The jury found true allegations that Freeny discharged a firearm causing great bodily injury and death.

On June 12, 2015, Gregory Denzel King was a passenger in a car driven by Freeny’s ex-girlfriend, Nicole Burch. Mr. Freeny became jealous and enraged that Ms. Burch and Mr. King were together.  He chased them down in his car, and shot Ms. Burch in the forearm. Due to her injuries, she was unable drive the car much farther.  When the car came to a stop, Freeny came up to the car and shot Mr. King nine times, resulting in his death.
