In 2008, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office welcomed "Reggie" to its Victim Witness Unit. St. Francis Pet Education and Training Center donated Reggie - a pure bred standard poodle - to serve as a comfort dog in a new and innovative service. Reggie provides a unique kind of support, peace and security to people who are in some way involved in the criminal justice system. His presence benefits victims, witnesses, lawyers, judges, law enforcement officers, court personnel and anyone who is in need of his calming influence.
Reggie is still “in-training” to ensure he is acclimated to the general public and stays well-behaved – he is taken to the courthouse, including hallways that are often crowded with people. We hope to have him in courtrooms on a regular basis to ease the stress and anxiety for everyone.
