PRESS RELEASE
REFLECTIONS ON A LIFE IN PUBLIC SAFETY
Sacramento County Sheriff Lou Blanas and retired Sacramento Metropolitan
Fire Chief Rick Martinez will be the keynote speakers at Sacramento’s
Seventh Annual Public Safety & Community Appreciation Breakfast.
District Attorney Jan Scully will host the annual breakfast on
Wednesday, May 3, 2006. This event is an opportunity for reflection and
thanksgiving for Sacramento's public safety community and the citizens
they serve.
Scully is joined in this effort by Police Chief Al Najera, Sheriff Lou
Blanas, Folsom Police Chief Sam Spiegel, Probation Chief Verne Speirs,
CHP Commissioner Mike Brown, U.S. Marshal Antonio Amador, and a host of
law enforcement and fire associations.
This year’s breakfast attendees will have the privilege of hearing from
two of Sacramento County’s longest serving public safety officials.
Sheriff Blanas and Fire Chief Martinez have dedicated their lives and
careers to public safety and service to the community. Sheriff Blanas
has been a police officer since 1968 and is currently serving the
remainder of his second term as Sheriff of Sacramento County. Rick
Martinez has been in fire service for over 31 years, serving as Fire
Chief for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District for ten years before
retiring last October. Chief Martinez served 21 years with the
Sacramento City Fire Department prior to joining Sacramento Metro Fire.
Both of these leaders will share what it has meant to them to play such
a pivotal role in the safety and welfare of all the citizens of
Sacramento.
Scully describes this breakfast as, “A wonderful opportunity for
citizens to express appreciation for law enforcement and fire personnel
who work so hard to make our community safe. It also provides those of
us who work in public safety the opportunity to thank Sacramento
citizens for the support they give us and recommit ourselves to
continuing our efforts to build stronger relationships and partnerships
with the community we serve."
The breakfast will be held at the Radisson Hotel. Seating begins at 6:30
a.m. The breakfast and program will begin at 7:00 a.m. Tickets are $15.
Attendance is open to everyone in the community – please join us.
