District Attorney Jan Scully announced that on April 5, 2006, Lin
O’Kelley was sentenced following her plea to insurance fraud charges.
O’Kelley was placed on felony probation and received a 90 day jail
sentence after having plead no contest to felony insurance fraud. She
had previously paid full restitution in the amount of $48,515.37 to
Placer County.
In 1999 O’Kelley was employed by the Placer County Sheriff’s Department
as a Deputy and was involved in a work-related vehicle accident.
Although she did suffer injuries from this accident, she eventually
recovered. However, she continued to claim that she had severe
limitations. One Friday in 2002 she left work indicating that her
modified work duty caused her unbearable pain. That weekend surveillance
video captured O’Kelley engaging in multiple strenuous physical
activities, including heavy yard work. She was also seen taking her
horse out for a horseback ride. O'Kelly made misrepresentation to
physicians and during her deposition about her physical limitations.
Deputy District Attorney Deborah Glynn commended District Attorney
Investigator Don Cox for his work in the case. “He really put this case
together, enabling the People to successfully prosecute this case.”
