District Attorney Jan Scully announced today the sentencing of Emil Morad
Ogg to 29 years in state prison for violations of Penal Code Section
664/187—attempted murder, Penal Code Section 273.5—corporal injury to a
spouse, and Penal Code Section 245(a)(1)—assault with a deadly weapon, to
wit: a knife. On Friday, August 19, 2005, the Honorable Steve White
sentenced the defendant to the aggravated term of twenty nine years. At the
time of the sentencing, the defendant maintained he was not a violent
person, he failed to accept responsibility, and he expressed disbelief that
the jury convicted him of the charges.
The defendant callously attacked his girlfriend on the morning of March 11,
2004, because she was interfering with his drug usage. There was tension in
their relationship due to his renewed crack usage, the fact he “hit on” her
sister, and the fact he was not a contributing member of the household. Emil
Morad Ogg stabbed her with a paring knife 13 times, including two slices to
the front of the neck that ran from ear to ear. According to medical
records, the victim had her temporal artery cut, as well. After the attack,
the defendant took the victim’s leather trench coat, her tennis shoes, her
car keys, and her vehicle. The defendant admitted leaving the scene because
he did not want to get caught. He was on the run in Sacramento County until
he was caught by police on an unrelated matter that June. At that time, he
did not have identification, gave a false name to the police, and damaged
the patrol vehicle.
Deputy District Attorney Lani Biafore stated, “Mr. Ogg is a violent person
who preyed on the one person that loved him. He sliced his girlfriend’s neck
while asking where her jugular vein was located. He told her he had gasoline
in the car, would wrap her body up, dump her body and burn it. He also told
her to look into his eyes and she would know why they call him “Evil.”
