District Attorney Jan Scully announced today the
return of a jury verdict in the case of the People of the State of
California versus Isaac Sandoval. Defendant Sandoval was charged with
the murder of Isidoro Lopez as well as firearm use enhancements and a
gang enhancement. The charges stemmed from a chance encounter at the
AM/PM Mini Market located at the corner of Elder Creek and Power Inn
Road between the defendant, a Norteno gang member, and members of a
rival gang. A brief verbal altercation ensued, at which point the
defendant produced a handgun and killed the victim. The jury convicted
Sandoval of all counts and all enhancements.
Defendant Sandoval will be sentenced on June 17,
2005, in front of the Honorable Greta Curtis Fall in Department 10 of
the Superior Court, and faces a potential sentence of 75 years to life.
