District Attorney Jan Scully announced the successful completion of the
case against Sean McCarthy. On March 11, 2005, The Honorable Patrick
Marlette sentenced Sean McCarthy, age 21, to 33 years in state prison
for violating Penal Code Sections 288(a) and 288(b), lewd acts on a
child.
On July 26, 2004, the victim disclosed to her sister that the defendant
had touched her inappropriately earlier that day. The defendant was
arrested and subsequent investigation by Detective Alan Fukushima of the
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department revealed two additional victims.
According to Deputy District Attorney Noah Phillips, “the defendant
clearly meets the diagnostic criteria for pedophilia and poses a serious
threat to the children of our community.”
