District Attorney Jan Scully announced today the sentencing of Eric Sion
Gregory to seventeen years and four months in state prison for
violations of Penal Code Section 273.5 felony domestic violence, Penal
Code Section 12022.7(e) infliction of great bodily injury, and Penal
Code Section 236 false imprisonment with violence. On December 10, 2004,
the Honorable Trena H. Burger-Plavan sentenced the Defendant to
seventeen (17) years and four months in state prison. At the sentencing,
the Defendant showed no remorse over his actions against the victim, his
girlfriend and in-home caregiver. He denied the charges and expressed
dismay over the jury process that he felt was tainted by false evidence.
On June 18, 2004 the Defendant severely beat the victim in their
apartment with hands and fists. The beatings resulted in two black eyes
that disabled the victim’s vision for several days. Later that night,
the Defendant drove the victim to a motel where he held her captive for
two days, refused to allow her to use the telephone, and refused her any
food or water.
On June 20, 2004, the Defendant drove the victim back to their
apartment. Once back at the apartment, the Defendant proceeded to beat
the victim with an aluminum crutch. The force of the blows caused the
crutch to break. The victim suffered a collapsed lung, broken ribs, and
numerous cuts and bruises to her head and face. The victim was
transported to UCDMC where she remained for five days. At the time of
these beatings, the Defendant was involved in dating relationships with
another woman and another man. He took the victim’s money after beating
her and wanted her out of the apartment.
Deputy District Attorney Lani Biafore stated, “The Defendant has a
history of beating his significant others for no apparent reason. He
uses violence as a way to control his environment. He is truly violent
and a danger to anyone with whom he has an intimate relationship.”
