District Attorney Jan Scully announced today the return of a jury verdict in the case of the People of the State of California versus Marquiest Murphy.  Defendant Murphy was charged with two counts of attempted murder with firearm use enhancements stemming from a gang related shooting at a local warehouse.  Murphy, a known Blood gang member, shot two people, injuring critically one who was nothing more than an innocent bystander.  The jury convicted Murphy of all counts and all enhancements.

Defendant Murphy will be sentenced in front of the Honorable David De Alba in Department 29 of the Superior Court, and faces a potential sentence of 59 years to life.

Deputy District Attorney Hilary Bagley, who prosecuted the case, was quoted as saying ”Defendant Marquiest Murphy is a violent criminal who would shoot other human beings simply because they wear the wrong colors.  Thanks to an understanding jury, he will never walk the streets of Sacramento again.”
