District Attorney Jan Scully announced today
that the Honorable Maryanne Gilliard sentenced Dorian Bailey on Friday
to 54 years plus 50 years-to-life in prison for two sexual assaults
that occurred in 2002.
On June 11, 2002, the first victim was waiting
to be picked up by her grandmother after school near Foothill High School.
The defendant approached her and forced her to walk to a secluded area,
where he sexually assaulted her. The victim was able to escape, and
she fled back to the school. While police responded, the defendant fled
the area.
Three miles to the south, and less than one hour
later, the second victim was watering her front lawn when the defendant
approached. He forced the second victim inside of her own home where
he proceeded to sexually assault her.
After an intense search for the defendant, including
media coverage, he was found in the state of Florida. Although the defendant
professed his innocence throughout the prosecution, once the jury announced
their fourteen guilty verdicts, the defendant shouted in anger that
he had only raped twice.
Deputy District Attorney Scott Triplett said,
"This is a manipulative and dangerous individual who will never
again be able to hurt innocent women."
