Telephone: 874-8840
District Attorney Jan Scully announced the return
of jury verdicts finding both Titus Wilson and Raymond Lopez guilty
of two counts of attempted first-degree murder, along with various gun
use enhancements and gang allegations. On August 1, 2003, the two defendants
went on a shooting spree in the Rancho Cordova area of town. Defendant
Raymond Lopez shot the first victim, Anthony Ciancio, once in the back
due to what the defendants perceived as the victim's being from the
wrong gang. Their next stop was just a few houses down on Norcade Circle.
There, defendant Titus Wilson shot the next victim, Michael Fielding,
four times because he was selling narcotics in their turf. Mr. Fielding
stopped breathing en route to U.C.D. Medical Center and was only revived
through open-heart surgery.
The defendants will be sentenced on July 30,
2004 by the Honorable Greta Fall in Department 10 of the Superior Court.
Both defendants face consecutive life sentences. Deputy District Attorney
Andrew Soloman, who prosecuted the case, stated, "These two individuals
went on a rampage for no other reason than they are violent gang members.
Their conduct was egregious and the punishment they face of consecutive
life sentences assures our community that they will not be allowed to
walk our streets again."
