District Attorney Jan Scully announces that $17,000
in restitution proceeds from the prosecution of People v. Bernard et
al. will be presented to Youth Guidance Connection. The Youth Guidance
Connection is a community based non-profit organization that provides
young people and their families with positive alternatives to negative
behaviors and actions. Youth Guidance Connection has formed a partnership
with Saybrook Apartments, a new affordable housing project for homeless
families.
Youth Guidance Connection has used the restitution
money to create an on-site computer-learning center at the Saybrook
Apartments. The center will provide after-school services for school
aged children.
In 2004, Community Prosecutor Natalia Luna successfully
prosecuted George Bernard and others for maintaining a run-down, crime-infested
abandoned hotel on the very same property that is now the Saybrook Apartments.
The restitution money that came out of the prosecution went right back
- literally - into improving that project. Thanks to the efforts of
the Community Prosecution Unit working alongside with members of our
community and other County agencies we have formed a new community that
will benefit everyone.
Please join District Attorney Jan Scully as she
presents a $17,000 check to Youth Guidance Connection at the Grand Opening
of the Saybrook Apartments:
