District Attorney Jan Scully announced
today the return of convictions of Attempted Murder and Shooting at
an Occupied Vehicle in the case of the People v. Jacoby Pope. On January
6, 2003, victims Michael Gise and Christopher Howard were shot as they
sat in their car in front of the Florin Creek Park on Persimmon Avenue.
Jacoby Pope fired 14 shots with a 9 mm pistol from close range as he
slowly passed the victims' car.
Deputy District Attorney Thomas Asker, who tried
the case stated: "This type of senseless gun violence threatens
the very core of our community and needs to be dealt with in the most
serious manner." Defendant Jacoby Pope faces a sentence of 44 years
to life in prison and will be sentenced sometime later this year.
