Deputy District Attorney
Jan Scully announced that on October 3, 2003, the Honorable Raymond
Cadei sentenced Adonis Rose to 33 years-to-life in prison for a sexual
assault that occurred last January.
On January 18, 2003, at
approximately 5:45 a.m., the victim was walking along Riverside Boulevard,
approaching Broadway, when she was attacked from behind. She turned
to see her attacker bearing down on her. Despite resistance by the victim
the defendant punched her and dragged her back away from the street,
where he began to smash her head into the sidewalk. He strangled her
to the point of unconsciousness and she awoke to find him sexually assaulting
her. A noise startled the attacker away and the victim used the opportunity
to run to the nearby Target store.
Shortly after the crime
a photo lineup was presented to the victim, and she identified the defendant
as her attacker. After a two week trial the jury quickly found the defendant
guilty on all counts.
Deputy District Attorney
Scott Triplett said, “this is a very deserving sentence for a very violent
individual. Although the defendant is only 23-years old, he has exhibited
an escalation of violence in his more recent crimes over the past few
years.”
