Case: People v. Leethial Payne
Contact: Lori Greene, Special Assault and Child Abuse
Telephone: (916) 874-5028
District Attorney Jan Scully
announced today that Leethial Damiyion Payne was sentenced by the Honorable
Roland Candee to two concurrent 25-years-to-life terms for the crimes
he committed in the south area in the summer of 2001. The Sacramento
Sheriff’s Department dubbed Payne the “Florin Area Rapist”, as he entered
homes as people slept and approached or assaulted women and young girls.
Payne would usually enter through a window left open on a hot summer
night. In most instances he was scared off before committing an assault,
but he did sexually assault one young woman leaving DNA evidence behind.
Totally unknown to all the victims, Deputy District Attorney Lori Greene
stated, “It was great work on the part of SSD Detective Rich Auleb and
Sgt. Mickey Links that solved this series of crimes. By working together
on all the cases, they were able to come up with Payne as a suspect,
and obtain his DNA to compare to that left at the crime scene. A very
dangerous man has been taken off the street.”
