MEDIA ADVISORY Contact Person: District Attorney Jan Scully will hold a press conference to announce the District Attorney’s Citizens Academy: Wednesday, August 28,
2002 @ 10:00 a.m. Across the country, as is in Sacramento, minority communities’ concerns relating to the criminal justice system surface every day. In an effort to improve communication and relations between minority communities and the criminal justice system and enhance multicultural and multi-ethnic sensitivity in the criminal justice community, District Attorney Jan Scully announces the District Attorney’s Citizens Academy. A first of its kind, Citizens Academy
provides participants with not only an important overview of the criminal
justice system (the roles and challenges of law enforcement, District
Attorney, and judiciary), but devotes three classes to diversity and
race issues within the framework of the criminal justice system. The
three topics identified for the fall class will be: Multicultural Sensitivity
in the Criminal Justice System, Race as a Factor in the Criminal Justice
System, and Perceptions of Disparate Treatment in the Criminal Justice
System.
