Truancy Sweep 2002
August 20, 2002 @ 9:00 a.m.
District Attorney’s Office
901 G Street, 4th floor, John Price Conference Room
The vast majority of Californians place a high priority
on education. Significant portions of our tax dollars go to support
our children and our schools. Most parents willingly assume the
responsibility for assuring that their children attend school regularly
and get the education they need to become productive adults. Parents
who actively shirk this responsibility, despite tremendous support from
the schools and the School Attendance Review Board, are now named in
arrest warrants for Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors who are
habitually truant students.
Please join Sacramento District Attorney Jan Scully,
Chief Probation Officer Verne Speirs, Undersheriff John McGinnis, Sacramento
Police Department Deputy Chief Steve Segura and Captain John Parker,
Department of Human Assistance Chief Investigator Gary Fisher, County
Office of Education Administrator of Child Welfare and Attendance Joe
Taylor, and others for a press conference preceding the 2002 Truancy
Sweep.
Materials outlining the S.A.R.B. process will be
available prior to the departure of the arrest teams.
