PRESS ADVISORY Contact: Vineeta Chand, District Attorney's Office District Attorney Jan Scully will hold a press conference to announce the formation of the Sacramento County District Attorney Multicultural Community Council as follows: Wednesday, March 20, 2002 @ 10:30 Desiring to reach out to groups who traditionally feel disenfranchised by the criminal justice system, Ms. Scully has asked a committed group of individuals who represent a broad range of ethnic communities in Sacramento to participate in this effort. The Multicultural Community Council will work to foster better understanding, open communication, and encourage community participation in the justice system. In addition, the Community Prosecution Unit has received an Enhancement Grant for Deputy District Attorney Alice Wong to work with minorities in order to encourage participation and communication, overcome distrust of law enforcement, improve minority involvement in community policing efforts, and enhance multi-cultural sensitivity in the criminal justice community. The press and public are invited to attend to meet the members of this Multicultural Community Council, co-chaired by Jerry L. Chong and Walter Edwards, to learn about the goals of the Council, and to meet Deputy District Attorney Alice Wong and hear about the enhancement grant.
