Supervising Deputy District Attorney

Domestic violence strikes at the core of our community and our families.
Domestic violence destroys the lives of the victim, the children, and
all who live in its wake. All too often, individuals who abuse their
families also abuse the system and fail to appear in court once their
crimes are reported. Communities cannot be protected unless those who
commit these acts of violence are arrested. Prior to this week there
had been numerous outstanding warrants for crimes involving domestic
abuse, including warrants for individuals under the "Three Strikes"
law, as well as for people who have multiple warrants outstanding for
their arrest.
Since February 13, 2002 and continuing through February 14, 2002, the
law enforcement agencies of Sacramento, led by District Attorney Jan
Scully, under a grant from the California Department of Justice, have
completed a Domestic Violence Sweep. The Domestic Violence Sweep has
targeted hundreds of domestic abusers with outstanding warrants for
their arrests. Eleven teams of officers from the Sacramento Sheriff's
Department, Sacramento Police Department, the Probation Department and
the District Attorney's Office have been canvassing our community and
arresting those with outstanding warrants for crimes of domestic violence
A press conference will be held to announce the outcome of this effort.
