On November 14, 2001, the defendant Robert Lee Wilson, pled guilty to one count of child molestation, a violation of Penal Code section 288(a). The sixty-two year old defendant also admitted that his prior conviction for child molestation in Santa Clara County in 1996 was true.

As a result of having at least one prior conviction for the same crime, Mr. Wilson is subject to California’s “One Strike” law (Penal Code section 667.61(a) and (d)). California’s “One Strike” statute applies to sexual assault crimes, including child molestation, committed on or after 11/30/94. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.

The Deputy District Attorney prosecuting this case highly commended the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Child Abuse Bureau, and in particular, Detective Steve Osborne. “Det. Osborne is a phenomenal suspect interviewer, a great asset to this community,” Gissing said.
