District Attorney Jan Scully announced today that her
motion to try Jorge Ramirez, Jr. for carjacking while armed with a handgun
was granted.
On Sunday, July 29, 2001 at 12:15 p.m. the 36-year-old
male victim walked back to his 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue rental car at
Denio’s Auction in Roseville. The 16-year-old suspect and an unknown
male accomplice approached him. The accomplice, still at large, demanded
the car keys from the victim. After the victim did not respond, the
accomplice pointed his semi-automatic handgun at the victim and repeated
his demand. Suspect Ramirez approached the victim from the other side,
lifted up his shirt, pulled out his semi-automatic handgun, and pointed
it at the victim. The victim tried to trick the suspects by giving them
his house keys. They were not fooled and demanded the car keys as they
ordered him into his car. He gave Ramirez the keys and Ramirez got into
the driver’s seat as the victim opened the left rear door. The accomplice
remained outside the car and was still pointing his gun at the victim.
The victim faked getting into the vehicle, slammed the door closed,
and ran to safety. Seeing that, the accomplice jumped in the car and
the suspects drove away.
Later that Sunday at 10:00 p.m., Sacramento Police Department
Officers spotted the stolen vehicle in Del Paso Heights. Ramirez was
in the driver’s seat. He was arrested without incident. A loaded .357
caliber revolver was found on the back passenger seat.
Ramirez is also pending murder charges in adult court
on an unrelated incident.
