Major Narcotics Unit
The Major
Narcotics Unit is staffed by six experienced trial lawyers, two secretaries
and two criminal investigators. The unit prosecutes the county's largest
drug cases, including clandestine methamphetamine labs, transportation,
sales, and possession for sale of all types of controlled substances.
Lawyers in this unit work closely with investigating narcotics officers
to ensure compliance with search and seizure and other legal requirements.
The unit provides a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week
on-call service to narcotics enforcement agencies for legal advice and
search warrant review. One of the lawyers and one of the investigators
are specifically assigned to handle all narcotics asset forfeiture cases
to deprive drug dealers of their ill-gotten gain. At least one of the
lawyers assigned to this unit also functions as a special assistant United
States Attorney to prosecute selected drug cases in federal court.
