CASE: Joseph Castaneda, Manuel Labrasca & Ray Ramirez

Joseph Castaneda, Manuel Labrasca, and Ray Ramirez were convicted of two counts of attempted murder and enhancements for causing great bodily injury and participating in a criminal street gang.
On March 17, 2016, Castaneda, Labrasca and Ramirez were in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the Lemon Hill area. All three are validated Norteno gang members. The two victims were in a car that entered the parking lot. When the passenger got out of that car he was immediately attacked. The driver attempted to intervene in the assault and was also attacked. Both victims suffered extensive stab wounds but they were able to get into their car and driver was able to drive to a local hospital.
Castaneda and Labrasca face a potential prison sentence of up to 30 years. Ramirez has a prior strike conviction for robbery and participating in a criminal street gang and faces a minimum sentence of 50 years to life. Sentencing is set for November 3, 2017 10:00 a.m. in Department 22 before the Honorable Russell Hom.
