Defendant Convicted for Sexual Assault of Homeless Woman

DATE:  June 27, 2017

CASE:  Lonnie Calimee (Case #16FE006026)

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Tate Davis, Adult Sexual Assault Prosecution Unit

Lonnie Calimee was convicted by a jury of first-degree residential burglary and sexual penetration of an unconscious victim.

In the early morning hours of March 22, 2016, the homeless female victim was sleeping in her tent under an overhang of a building on Bicentennial Circle in Sacramento.  She awoke to find Lonnie Calimee halfway inside her tent and sexually assaulting her.  When the victim screamed, Calimee fled the scene.  The victim was able to call 911, and she was taken to the Bear Center for a sexual assault examination.  The examination revealed injuries consistent with penetrating trauma.  DNA samples were collected from Calimee, and the victim’s DNA was recovered from under his fingernails.

A trial as to allegations that Calimee has suffered seven prior strike convictions will occur at the sentencing hearing.  Sentencing is set for August 11, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 20 before the Honorable Michael Bowan.
