CASE: Justin Jesus (Case #15F07687)
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Shelly McGill
The Honorable Michael Bowman sentenced Justin Jesus to 26 years to life in prison. On May 2, 2017, a jury convicted Jesus for the first-degree murder of his wife, Elizabeth Masters. The jury found the allegation that Jesus used a knife in the commission of the murder to be true. Jesus was also convicted of felony domestic violence, including allegations that he inflicted great bodily injury and used a deadly weapon.
Jesus had a history of domestic violence. In the course of their tumultuous relationship, Ms. Masters left their home to stay with her family in Folsom. Approximately one week later on December 20, 2015, Jesus showed up at Ms. Masters’ parents’ home in Folsom. Ms. Masters and Jesus left the home around midnight. Several hours later, family members heard a commotion outside and found Jesus in the backyard holding a knife. Soon after, the family discovered Ms. Masters’ body on the side of the house, buried under a pile of leaves. She had been stabbed numerous times including severe lacerations to the neck. Jesus was apprehended by law enforcement a short distance away, and in possession of the murder weapon.
