Defendant Convicted of Sexually Assaulting 6-Year-Old Child

CASE:  Garry Dewayne Mason (Case #16FE023265)

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Brian Morgan, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

Garry Dewayne Mason was convicted by a jury of two counts of committing a lewd and lascivious act on a child under the age of 14, committing a lewd and lascivious act on a child under the age of 14 by force and sexual penetration of a child age 10 and younger.

In November 2016, the victim spent the day with Mason, who is family member.  The following day, the victim complained of pain in her genital area to her mother.  The victim then told her mother how Mason had sexually assaulted her.  She also disclosed that a few months earlier Mason sexually abused her and held her down when she tried to get away.  She was 6 years old at the time.

Mason faces a maximum sentence of 35 years to life in prison.  Sentencing is set for January 19, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 33 before the Honorable Michael Savage.
